Acura J32A3 3.2L V6: TL Specs, ECU Identification & Maintenance
Honda / Acura · Engine Information
J32A3 · 3.2L VTEC V6
The third-generation TL’s 3.2L V6 delivers its character without a turbocharger: responsive port injection, VTEC and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. Revised SAE ratings explain the later horsepower figures.

| J32A3 · 2006–2008 | 258 @ 6,200 rpm | 233 @ 5,000 rpm |
The later rating uses revised SAE reporting; it should not be presented as an equivalent mechanical power reduction.
U.S. & Canadian applications
| Model | Model years | Engine code | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acura TL 3.2 · UA6/UA7 | 2004–2008 | J32A3 | 5AT / 6MT by year and trim |
The later TL Type-S 3.5L is a different application.
Engine controllers
| Application / PCM family | Controller / hardware | Identification details |
|---|---|---|
| Factory engine management | Acura PGM-FI; 32-bit RISC processor described by OEM | Manufacturer specifications do not establish a named MCU or flash capacity |
| 2007–2008 TL base · 37820-RDA | RDA-A82–A84 documented by Hondata | Do not assign these donor numbers to every 2004–2006 original PCM |
Confirm the full PCM part number and transmission before selecting a controller or programming tool. Published tuning compatibility can involve a donor unit rather than the original factory ECU.
Common issues & maintenance
- Belt, tensioner & water pumpInspect service history and repair leaks or abnormal tensioner noise. Follow the model’s age and mileage requirements.
- Oil leaksInspect covers and seals as the engine ages, and check the dipstick between services.
- Valve clearance & misfiresPoor idle or misfires require ignition, fuel and clearance checks. Do not assume a later J37 oil-ring defect applies to the J32A3.
Use the specified premium fuel and oil. Keep the cooling system healthy and complete timing-belt, spark-plug and valve-inspection services on schedule.
