Ford Duratec 30 3.0L V6: Specs, PIP Update, PCM & Maintenance
Ford · Gasoline engine
Duratec 303.0L V6 · Original & PIP
The Fusion’s 3.0L Duratec is a compact, naturally aspirated V6 with port injection. The 2010 PIP update brings a substantial power increase and flex-fuel capability; those changes make model year and calibration essential when choosing parts.

Vehicles & factory output
| Engine variant | Vehicle | Model years | Platform | Factory rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duratec 30 | Ford Fusion | 2006–2009 | CD3 | 221 hp / 205 lb-ft |
| Duratec 30 PIP | Ford Fusion | 2010–2012 | CD3 | 240 hp / 223 lb-ft |
Listed output is on gasoline. PIP denotes the revised engine; it is not a universal Ford “Gen 2” engine code.
Engine controller
| Application | Supplier & family | Hardware / identification |
|---|---|---|
| Fusion · 2006–2009 | FoMoCo EEC-V catalogue family | Original 3.0L application; match coil-driver and transmission hardware. |
| Fusion PIP · 2010–2012 | Continental JDS0 catalogue designation | BenchForce identifies the 2010–2012 Fusion PCM as Copperhead; match VCT and transmission strategy. |
Original and PIP Fusion engines have different control hardware. Diagnose coil, harness and power-supply faults before condemning the PCM. Match the complete Ford engineering/service number, supplier hardware ID and diagnostic strategy/calibration ID. The same engine size can use different modules; processor names alone do not identify an ECU.
Catalogue entries identify application families, not a guaranteed ECU for every build year. Confirm the installed unit.
Common faults & maintenance
- Coil and PCM damage. TSB 12-8-17 covers affected 2006–2008 engines built on or before March 1, 2008 with P0351–P0356 faults and damaged coils. Follow the diagnostic sequence before replacement.
- Reduced power. Affected later Fusion vehicles are included in throttle-body program 13N03; confirm applicability and distinguish throttle faults from misfires.
- Oil leaks and cooling. Inspect valve-cover seals, PCV plumbing and coolant connections; resolve leaks before they contaminate ignition parts or cause overheating.
Keep it healthy. Use the Ford oil specification and viscosity for the exact model year. Follow the normal or severe-use schedule for towing, extended idling, dust and repeated short trips; check oil and coolant between services. Diagnose deposits or poor running before prescribing cleaning intervals.

Listed vehicles are selected North American applications. Ratings and equipment vary with model year, fuel and emissions specification. Verify the VIN, engine label and PCM identification before ordering parts or software. Service bulletins describe affected conditions and do not establish a failure rate or current warranty entitlement.
