Gen 2 High Feature 3.6L V6 LGX & LGZ
The LGX and truck-focused LGZ modernize GM’s naturally aspirated V6 with direct injection and revised valve control. Both use E82-family electronics in the verified Acadia/Canyon applications, while output and operating strategies remain vehicle-specific.

Engine construction
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Capacity / layout | 3.6L · 60° V6 |
| Construction | Aluminum block and heads |
| Valve gear | DOHC · 24 valves · variable timing |
| Fuel / induction | Direct injection · naturally aspirated |
| Timing drive | Chains |
| Economy features | AFM / stop-start availability depends on application |
Codes & output
| RPO / version | Power / torque | Key difference |
|---|---|---|
| LGX, Acadia / XT5 | 310 hp / 271 lb-ft | Crossover rating |
| LGZ, Canyon / Colorado | 308 hp / 275 lb-ft | Pickup rating |
SAE horsepower; torque in lb-ft. Ratings are for the stated application and fuel, rather than every vehicle with this RPO.
Vehicles & model years
| Brand | Model | Model years | Platform / chassis | Engine RPO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GMC | Acadia | 2017–2023 | C1XX | LGX |
| GMC / Chevrolet | Canyon / Colorado | 2017–2022 | GMT31XX | LGZ |
| Cadillac | ATS / CTS; CT6 | ATS/CTS 2016–2019; CT6 2016–2020 | Alpha / Omega | LGX |
| Cadillac | XT5 / XT6 | XT5 2017–2026; XT6 2020–2025 | C1XX | LGX |

U.S. and Canadian applications within the 2005–2026 matrix scope. Engine availability depends on trim, build date and emissions certification.
Engine controllers
| Application / revision | ECM or PCM | Identification & function |
|---|---|---|
| Verified 2017 Acadia and Canyon 3.6L | GM E82 ECM | Injection, variable cam timing, throttle and application-specific cylinder deactivation |
| Later applications | E82-family, confirm hardware/service ID | Identify transmission and security architecture separately; shared RPO does not guarantee file compatibility |
Identify the module from its service number, operating-system ID and VIN. The ECM/PCM and transmission controller have separate calibrations on many applications; a matching RPO alone does not make a replacement module plug-and-play.
Common issues & maintenance
- Thermostat / coolant-temperature faultsP0128, abnormal fan operation and some steering-assist warnings can originate from coolant-temperature or thermostat faults. Follow engine-cooling diagnosis rather than replacing the steering gear.
- Intake cam park-lock solenoidsGM PIP5730A describes sticking or damaged park-lock solenoids behind some P0016/P0018 faults. Inspect the specified parts before assuming timing-chain stretch.
- Post-repair wiring / misfiresOn specified LGZ trucks, identical actuator connectors can be swapped during service, causing rough idle and P0016. Check harness routing and connector identity along with ordinary ignition/fuel tests.
Keep it healthy. Use the specified dexos oil and check the level between changes. Follow the oil-life system and time limit, with severe-service adjustments where required. Investigate startup rattle and persistent misfires early; intake cleaning should follow symptoms and inspection, not a universal fixed interval. Maintain cooling-system health and check applicable thermostat coverage by VIN.
