EA8244.0 TFSI V8

A compact V8 with a very big reach. The EA824 places two turbochargers inside its cylinder banks, bringing effortless torque to Audi performance cars and Bentley grand tourers. Cylinder deactivation helps at light load; when the pace rises, all eight cylinders get to work. Its key ownership check is the turbo oil supply.

Common faults & maintenance

  • Turbo oil strainer. On affected Audi vehicles, a restricted strainer can starve the turbo bearings. Check recall 21H7 / 22V-178 completion by VIN; oil changes alone do not complete the recall repair.
  • PCV and oil leaks. Whistling, rough idle or abnormal crankcase pressure call for breather diagnosis. Inspect leaks in the valley and at covers before replacing seals.
  • Cooling-system condition. Check pump operation, coolant connections and charge-cooler circuits. Heat and restricted airflow make small cooling faults more consequential under load.
  • Misfires and deposits. Test plugs, coils and fuel pressure, and inspect intake-valve deposits if symptoms warrant. Diagnose timing faults or persistent chain noise promptly.

Keep it healthy. Maintain the correct oil approval and level, keep cooling airflow clear, and match oil-service frequency to use. Warm the engine before heavy load and ease off after sustained hard driving. Check applicable recalls and service campaigns using the VIN.
