Common issues & maintenance
- Correct oil. Use VW 507 00-approved oil; viscosity alone is insufficient.
- Oil-change timing. Follow mileage and time limits. Frequent short trips, dust, stop-and-go driving and prolonged freezing conditions can require earlier changes. Assess heavy-load use with your workshop.
- Injector hold-downs. Follow the engine-specific installation procedure. Replace the CKRA’s single-use injector clamp bolt whenever removed.
- Turbo care. Poor lubrication, restricted airflow, hard acceleration while cold and hot shutdowns can damage a turbo. Warm up gently and allow cooling after sustained heavy loads.
- Intake / EGR deposits. Deposits can restrict flow or disrupt EGR operation. Inspect and clean or replace affected parts as needed; some restrictions also require DPF diagnosis.
- Sticking swirl flaps. CBEA/CJAA only: check for deposits, worn linkages and actuator faults. Cleaning cannot repair worn hardware.
- General servicing. Keep oil, filters and timing-belt servicing current. Investigate leaks, warning lights and performance changes promptly.
Inspect first; clean as needed. Base intake and EGR cleaning on component condition and vehicle use, following the correct procedure for each part.
