Ford Duratec 25 2.5L: Specs, PCM & Maintenance
Ford · Gasoline engine
Duratec 252.5L · Inline-four
Extra displacement makes the 2.5L Duratec a relaxed fit for the 2010–2012 Fusion. Port injection and a chain-driven valvetrain keep the layout familiar; throttle-body diagnosis is one of the important checks when a wrench light and reduced power appear.

Vehicles & factory output
| Engine variant | Vehicle | Model years | Platform | Factory rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duratec 25 | Ford Fusion | 2010–2012 | CD3 | 175 hp / 172 lb-ft |
| Duratec 25 · conventional | Ford Escape | 2017 example | C1 | 168 hp / 170 lb-ft |
The oil figures above are specific to the 2010 Fusion manual. Later Fusion/Escape service data differ; the Atkinson-cycle hybrid is a separate version.
Engine controller
| Application | Supplier & family | Hardware / identification |
|---|---|---|
| Fusion · 2010–2012 / early CD4 | Continental JDS0 catalogue designation | JDS0 is recorded for 2010/2013 Fusion; BenchForce calls the 2010–2012 PCM Copperhead. Read the installed label. |
| Later conventional Fusion 2.5L | Continental EMS24xx family also listed | TC1791-family variants; exact transition requires the module ID. |
JDS0 and EMS24xx are application cross-references, not interchangeable software targets. Identify the Fusion’s installed module rather than transferring a controller reference from another 2.5L Ford. Match the complete Ford engineering/service number, supplier hardware ID and diagnostic strategy/calibration ID. The same engine size can use different modules; processor names alone do not identify an ECU.
Catalogue entries identify application families, not a guaranteed ECU for every build year. Confirm the installed unit.
Common faults & maintenance
- Electronic throttle body. Ford program 13N03 addresses affected Fusion vehicles with intermittent throttle-motor contact problems and reduced power. Confirm coverage by VIN.
- Misfires or lean codes. Check ignition parts, PCV plumbing and intake leakage before replacing injectors or electronics.
- VCT and chain noise. Check oil level, pressure and the correct lubricant when cam-control faults or persistent timing noise appear.
Keep it healthy. Use the Ford oil specification and viscosity for the exact model year. Follow the normal or severe-use schedule for towing, extended idling, dust and repeated short trips; check oil and coolant between services. Diagnose deposits or poor running before prescribing cleaning intervals.

Listed vehicles are selected North American applications. Ratings and equipment vary with model year, fuel and emissions specification. Verify the VIN, engine label and PCM identification before ordering parts or software. Service bulletins describe affected conditions and do not establish a failure rate or current warranty entitlement.
