Ingenium 3.0Petrol Inline-Six
The Ingenium straight-six combines a naturally balanced six-cylinder layout with turbocharging and electrification. In the P400 mild hybrid, an electric compressor helps fill the low-speed boost gap, while a 48 V starter-generator recovers energy during deceleration.

Power & torque
| Version | Horsepower | Torque · lb-ft |
|---|---|---|
| P340 mild hybrid | 335 hp | 354 |
| P360 mild hybrid | 355 hp | 365 or 369 by application |
| P400 mild hybrid | 395 hp | 406 |

| P550e plug-in hybrid · 2024 | 542 hp combined | 590 combined |
P360 torque differs between early Range Rover/Sport and later applications. PHEV figures include the electric motor and are separate from petrol-engine output. The P440e and P550e use a high-voltage traction battery, unlike the 48 V MHEV.

U.S. and Canadian engine-equipped versions; availability varies by trim and market. ¹ PHEV figures are combined engine-and-motor output; P440e torque is rounded from JLR’s 620 Nm technical specification. The petrol engine alone does not produce 434 hp / 457 lb-ft. ² The 2024 P550e is shown separately because it replaced the P440e with different system output. MHEV = mild hybrid; PHEV = plug-in hybrid.
Engine controllers
| Controller | Processor | Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Bosch MG1CS028 | Infineon TC298 | Ingenium 3.0 petrol P340/P360/P400; listed P440e/P510e PHEV applications |
MG1CS028 identifies the petrol engine controller, not every module in the hybrid system. Hardware, software and security revisions vary. Match the ECU label, diagnostic identification and VIN; do not infer compatibility from a P400 badge or an advertised power figure.
Common issues & sensible maintenance
- 48 V charging-system recall. Recall 26V248 covers specified MHEV vehicles with a DC/DC converter fault that can stop 12 V charging. Check VIN coverage and completion; a “Stop Safely” charging warning needs prompt attention.
- Coolant leaks. JLR documented coolant leaks on early AJ20P6 Range Rover Sport applications. Pressure-test falling coolant levels and inspect hoses, connections and heat-management components.
- Early timing-chain concerns. A 2020 JLR bulletin investigated no-start cases with camshafts not turning on early 2019-onward MHEV applications. Investigate chain noise or timing faults; it does not show a family-wide failure rate.
- Grounding and misfires. JLR identified loose engine ground fasteners on specified 2021 F-PACE/Velar builds. Misfire and catalyst faults can have an electrical cause, so verify grounds before condemning ignition or fuel components.
- Hybrid and engine maintenance. Keep the correct oil approval and severe-use schedule. Diagnose 12 V/48 V supply faults alongside engine codes, and use qualified procedures around hybrid electrical equipment.
Keep the basics right. Treat coolant loss, repeated misfires and charging warnings as repair prompts. Use the VIN for recall and service applicability; the petrol inline-six should not inherit fault claims from the unrelated Ingenium diesel four-cylinder.

Specifications vary by calibration and model year. Service bulletins document faults on identified applications; they do not establish a failure rate for every engine.
