GM Ecotec 2.5L LCV: Specs, Engine Codes, Controllers & Maintenance
Engine Information · GM · Ecotec · direct-injected 2.5L
Ecotec 2.5L LCV
The naturally aspirated LCV combines direct injection and dual cam timing in a compact four-cylinder. Pickup and crossover ratings differ, and the engine should not be confused with GM’s turbocharged 2.5L.

Engine construction
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Capacity / layout | 2,457 cc · inline-four |
| Bore × stroke | 88 × 101 mm |
| Construction | Aluminum block and head |
| Valve gear / timing | DOHC · 16 valves · chain |
| Fuel / induction | Direct injection · naturally aspirated |
| Cam control | Variable intake and exhaust timing |
Codes & output
| RPO / version | Power / torque | Key difference |
|---|---|---|
| LCV, Canyon / Colorado | 200 hp / 191 lb-ft | Pickup rating |
| LCV, Acadia | 193 hp / 188 lb-ft | Crossover rating |
SAE horsepower; torque in lb-ft. Ratings are for the stated application and fuel, rather than every vehicle with this RPO.
Vehicles & model years
| Brand | Model | Model years | Platform / chassis | Engine RPO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GMC / Chevrolet | Canyon / Colorado | 2015–2022 | GMT31XX | LCV |
| GMC | Acadia | 2017–2021 | C1XX | LCV |
| Chevrolet | Malibu 2.5L | 2013 | Epsilon II | LCV |
U.S. and Canadian applications within the 2005–2026 matrix scope. Engine availability depends on trim, build date and emissions certification.
Engine controllers
| Application / revision | ECM or PCM | Identification & function |
|---|---|---|
| 2015+ midsize pickups | GM E80 ECM | Direct-injection pressure, electronic throttle, cam timing and torque control |
| Earlier LCV / other installations | GM E39/E39A-family or application-specific ECM | Read the actual hardware/service ID; do not transfer a pickup calibration by displacement |
Identify the module from its service number, operating-system ID and VIN. The ECM/PCM and transmission controller have separate calibrations on many applications; a matching RPO alone does not make a replacement module plug-and-play.
Common issues & maintenance
- Cam actuator faultsP0010/P0013 can be electrical actuator faults. GM documented internal actuator wiring problems on selected 2013 LCV/LTG vehicles; check exact coverage rather than applying it to every later pickup.
- Oil-dependent cam timingLow oil, unsuitable oil or a sticking control valve can cause correlation/performance codes. Test oil pressure and actuator response before replacing the timing set.
- Fuel and ignition misfiresInjector delivery, coils and plugs need cylinder-by-cylinder testing. Persistent fuel dilution or a misfire should be repaired promptly.
Keep it healthy. Use the specified oil and keep its level correct. Follow plug, coolant and filter schedules; do not apply turbo-engine fuel or maintenance requirements simply because another engine is also 2.5L.
